They are natural pollinators. I’m sure you’ve seen them in your vegetable garden. It is amazing to watch them hover in one spot defending their territory from other insects.
It’s a form of survival for the hoverfly to mimic the yellow jacket… just like the Viceroy butterfly mimics the toxic and foul tasting Monarch butterfly. The hoverfly is absolutely harmless.
