While returning from a quail harvest with my nephew Matt Abbitt on the Jamestown Ferry, we saw five of these magnificent birds shoot across the bow of the ferry. We also saw about twenty flocks of ducks, perhaps 30 per, pitching in at dusk for their rest on the icy waters of the James. Wow, is nature a wonder.

Ducks seem to be an important food source for eagles. It is hard for me to watch them nab a duck but it’s part of the grand scheme of nature.
