Hi Pollinating, He looks like a bumblebee but he is a carpenter bee. Look closely at the photo and you’ll see a white patch on his face beneath his eyes. This tells us he is the male and he has no stinger! I should confess about this photo. I dropped a tad of honey on this sedum (Hylotelephium spectabile ‘Ruby Jewel’), picked up the sluggish fall carpenter bee and placed him on the honey. He gobbled all the honey before flying away totally energized 20 minutes later.
